In your waking life it may come as a surprise to learn that there may be another level to your consciousness. Through various means and practices it is possible to unlock parts of the mind that were once unknown to us. The term “higher consciousness” gets thrown around a lot, but what does higher consciousness actually mean?
Higher consciousness is a state of mind that is no longer revolving around the “I” thought that is present within the mind. Once the mind has undergone a perspective shift, it allows for a new understanding within the mind to occur. Through meditation and self inquiry, higher consciousness is possible.
Understanding Higher Consciousness
It may seem that that the term “higher consciousness” means that you will have a super power or learn some magical ability. Unfortunately, we do live in reality and this is not the case. What is good about this revelation is that higher consciousness is more of a realistic notion rather than something that is just spoken as a myth.
Before you undergo a spiritual awakening, the mind perceives the “I” or “Me” thought within the mind to be the one that is controlling every action.
The reality is that this is just an illusion that has taken over almost every single person that is alive today. It isn’t seen as “being asleep”, it is seen as “being normal”.
When we think that “I” am in control, the ego is in full effect. The ego is incredibly powerful, the ego will do everything in its power to stay in control. It could even be considered to be a parasite within the mind.
Do not think that if you haven’t seen through the illusion of “I” that means that you have done something wrong, in fact most people haven’t. This is where we can start to learn about higher consciousness and what it really is.
When a person undergoes a true spiritual awakening, instead of thinking that “I am in control” the mind sees through this illusion once and for all. Understand that this is not just a thought, this is a full body experience and is something that can be tested within the mind to see if it is true or not.
During your waking life, usually your mind is flooded with thoughts that are mostly irrelevant. Seemingly no way to actually turn them off. A spiritual awakening finally unlocks the mind in a way that changes our perception permanently.
Living in Higher Consciousness
Although it is possible to attain a higher consciousness, what does it really mean to perceive it?
Living in higher consciousness sounds like you attain some sort of mystical powers that brings you above others. Truthfully, the only thing higher consciousness does is maintain a sense of peacefulness and better understanding of the thoughts that you will encounter on a daily basis.
Before entering a state of higher consciousness, your thoughts likely run rampant. They are never ending, constantly buzzing throughout the mind. A being that has attained higher consciousness does not work this way any longer. Thinking no longer is a permanent mode, thinking just occurs naturally.
This is a different type of living that you may have to get used to if you haven’t reached this level of higher consciousness before. It may come as a shock to you, but the hard reality of the situation is that most thoughts that occur within the mind are mostly meaningless. They are just static in the mind.
The moment the mind doesn’t need to process all this static any longer is the moment that it can fully utilize every ounce of energy the mind has.
When you take a shower, are you really taking a shower?
Are you fully present within the moment or are you stuck in thought thinking about what your next move will be?
This is what it truly means to be in higher consciousness, thinking is no longer a necessity but rather a tool that is learned to be utilized.
Higher consciousness allows us to fully live within the present moment. This is what it truly means to be alive. You aren’t thinking about the past or the future, you are fully taking in the present for everything it has to offer.
How Do You Achieve Higher Consciousness?
The term “higher consciousness” in itself is a bit misleading.
Every person alive has the ability to come to full spiritual realization and reside within the present moment.
There are no barriers set or some magical way to get to the end point. The mind is constantly expanding, just like the universe. The amount of presence one can achieve within their lifetime is limitless.
You may be wondering, how do you get there exactly?
One of the best ways to understand higher consciousness is to start meditating on a daily basis.
Another way is to practice self-inquiry. Here is a video to get you started.
When you constantly ask the mind “Who am I”, it tries to find this “I” thought within the mind.
You must remember that it may take some effort to truly bring some realization to your life. You have lived a certain way all your life and now you are attempting to change this vicious cycle that has been running rampant within the mind. Don’t try to force anything, take it with ease.
Self-inquiry along with meditation are two fairly powerful tactics to try and see what higher consciousness is all about.
People have spent their entire lives dedicated to these practices, don’t be afraid if at first you don’t succeed. It’s like riding a bike, you wouldn’t try riding a bike without training wheels for the first time would you?
Is Higher Consciousness Worth It?
Finding peace within the mind should be your number one priority in life.
If you haven’t realized it yet, our reality is just a projection of our mind.
Ever had a bad day and felt that everything was seemingly terrible? Or the complete opposite, where your day was going amazing and everything just seemed so perfect?
Try to imagine every day was peaceful and you couldn’t find any fault within it.
This is why trying to build a spiritual life and expanding your consciousness is important.
The material world can only offer so much. There are numerous people who have had the world at their finger tips and even when they were as wealthy as they could ever imagine they still suffered from depths of suffering.
Understanding how the mind works and how consciousness surrounds us is one of the most important things you can focus on in your life.
The mind cannot be escaped no matter how hard you try. It will always come back to haunt you if you attempt to run. The better solution would be to come to a full understanding rather than put it off watching Netflix.
Self inquiry and meditation will be your two best tools along your spiritual journey if you decide to take it. Once you taste how true nature can really be, the silence that surrounds us all, I don’t think that you will take a look behind you.
Remember that this is all not some sort of mystical power or ability but rather something that is much more attainable, peace of mind. Peace of mind is the most expensive thing in the world.
If there was a price on our happiness it would be infinity. Fortunately for us there is no way to sell the power that is inside us, the only way to tap into it is to take that journey for yourself.
