A few years ago I lost my spiritual flow. I was trying so hard to be a person that I wasn’t any longer. The universe shut off any connection I had left.
Every turn I took was a dead end. Nothing was working, and I felt desperate. I felt that I wasn’t “me” any longer.
The reality was that I was going down the wrong path. The invisible hand of the universe paused my life and forced me to take a good look at my life.
I had to make a change. Even if that meant that I had to lose everything to see it.
What is Spiritual Flow?
Spiritual flow is being in sync with life, the universe, and everything. When you’re in flow, you know deep in your soul you’re going down the right path. You aren’t trying, you aren’t desperate to get anywhere. Opportunities come at the right time in an almost premeditated way.
It’s a magical place, it’s the present moment. It’s the pure acceptance of reality, without any objection. You’re dancing with the universe and it’s dancing with you.
Losing your Flow
Seemingly, out of nowhere your flow can become obstructed. It’s in these moments that life is calling for you to examine your life.
- Are you going down the right path?
- Is there anything that’s you’re hiding from?
- Are you ignoring the inner being that has been trying to speak to you?
These are questions you need to ask yourself when your flow has vanished. When it happens, it’s an invitation to inquire into the deepest parts of your soul.
I spent years fulfilling my ego through monetary and materialistic means. I had ignored my soul begging to change course and while it was a roller coaster of a ride, I came crashing down, hard.
I was miserable in the job that I was working. I thought that happiness was at the end of my journey and I spent years postponing life so I could “better myself”. I had to grind harder, faster. And that’s what ruined me in the end.
But I learned. And so can you!
How do you get spiritually unstuck?
I know you’ll hate hearing this, but time is the answer. When you’re in the thick of it, it seems that you’ll never see the light again. You’re left picking up the pieces of what once was, but you’re in a transition period of growth.
If you’re stuck right now, you can try these ways of coping below:
1. Meditate
Meditation is vital during this period of turmoil. Your sessions will show you what you’ve been trying to hide from.
It’s important that you don’t run away from intense emotions as they arise. These emotions are what led you to this moment so it’s wise to see it eye to eye.
By bringing yourself back to your center, you’ll slowly start feeling your spiritual flow increase. You have to learn how to swim again, and it’s ok. This process takes time.
I prefer doing spiritual meditation during these difficult times.
2. Practice patience
I’ve had periods in my life where I had to wait years to feel normal. Trying to rush the process won’t make it any faster, you’ll only find more frustration.
It’s a good time to start being appreciative of the small things. When you wake up and have your first cup of coffee/tea/water in the morning, take a second to thank the universe for your existence.
Genuine gratitude is how you start slowly introducing flow back into your life. But the fact is, some wounds take time to heal. Be patient.
3. Give in
Part of the problem with losing your flow is being unable to accept it. I found myself clinging to old habits, and it felt like NOTHING was working anymore. Old habits die hard.
I had to accept that the person that I was leaving behind wasn’t me anymore. I wasn’t the guy that wanted to lift weights and spend every minute of my day making money.
To become anew you must let go of the old. Life is making you look at yourself and until you accept where you are, you’ll be unable to move forward.
4. Move Forward
It took months for me to accept that I couldn’t be the person I was trying to be any longer. It was the hardest thing I ever went through in my life. Why did everything go so wrong when I was on top of the world?
I’m thankful that I’m standing here today on a different mountain. I’m a better person. I am more patient, kind, and relaxed. I appreciate the small things and know how hard I struggled to find peace. I appreciate life and how beautiful it is.
But you can’t do those things if you’re stuck in the past. You have to accept that you’re moving forward, no matter what it takes.
5. Relax
As hard as it may seem, relax. Your spiritual flow will come back again. The weird part is that it sneaks up on you!
You’ll look back and it will seem so obvious. Right now, it can seem tough when nothing is going the way you want it. It’s happening for a reason, and you need to figure out how to deal with it.
I used to be obsessed with improving my life, even when the costs were extreme. Now I realize that life is short, and if you aren’t find time to rejuvenate, it will be impossible to recover.
Give yourself as much time as you need and when you feel tired, take time off. Stressing over when and if your flow will come back won’t lead anywhere.
Final Thoughts
Your spiritual flow will come. It’s already here, now. You only need to see it for yourself.
The less pressure you put on yourself, the more you’ll start naturally flowing with the universe.
Take your time, be patient, and will be well.
Hi Roy,
Thanks for all of this. It really helps.
